Product Description

The EAGLOTEST S480 is a portable earth resistance tester (ground resistance tester) for grounding-system checks and site surveys. It supports 2-, 3- and 4-terminal earth resistance measurement and 4-point Wenner soil resistivity testing, with an earth resistance range up to 200 kΩ and resolution down to 0.001 Ω.

Automatic test-frequency selection helps reduce the influence of electrical interference, while automatic ranging simplifies measurement setup. A rechargeable battery and backlit LCD support field use, while the HOLD function saves measured results to a 300-record memory. Stored data can be transferred to PC software for review, reporting and printing.

Technical FAQ

What is the difference between 2-, 3- and 4-terminal earth resistance testing?

The 4-terminal method uses separate current and voltage connections to reduce the influence of test-lead and contact resistance. The 3-terminal method uses a combined connection at the electrode under test. The 2-terminal method uses an existing reference earth; its reading includes the resistance of that reference and the test path.

Can the S480 measure soil resistivity?

Yes. The S480 uses the 4-point Wenner method. Four electrodes are placed in a straight line at equal spacing, and the spacing is entered into the instrument to calculate soil resistivity. The supported spacing setting is 1–100 m; electrode depth and placement must follow the manual.

What does the NOISE indicator mean?

NOISE appears when interference voltage exceeds 5 V and earth resistance readings may be affected. Automatic frequency selection helps reduce interference, but does not remove every source of error. Before earth resistance testing, check the ground voltage and follow the manual: the voltage between C(H)–E or P(S)–ES must be below 20 V.

How are S480 measurements saved and transferred to a PC?

Press HOLD after a measurement to freeze and save the result. The instrument stores up to 300 records, which can be transferred to a PC for viewing, saving and printing.
